This blog will expand on themes and topics first mentioned in my book, "The Automobile and American Life." I hope to comment on recent developments in the automobile industry, reviews of my readings on the history of the automobile, drafts of my new work, contributions from friends, descriptions of the museums and car shows I attend and anything else relevant. Saving up for a KdF Wagen
Ever kick yourself for not buying something at a flea market? Well, back in 2007 I as at the Saturday morning Vienna flea market at the Naschmarkt and had the opportunity to buy a KdF stamp saving book with stamps in it. As you probably know, Germans who wanted a Beetle needed to fill a stamp book during he late 1930s. When complete, a new Beetle was yours! Unfortunately, the coming of WWII interrupted this little activity and VW production was shifted to wartime production of various vehicles and other products.
