"The House of Diggs:" a Leading African-American Funeral Home in Detroit and a Fleet of 1957 Chrysler Imperial Hearses

Ed Garten has this talent for digging up interesting history, including the story of the fleet of Chrysler Imperial hearses and the very profitable Diggs funeral practice located in Detroit. Quite a story here, and I will leave it to you the reader to "dig" it up if you are interested. Curious how this African-American business employed Chrysler products rather then Cadillacs -- why? is an obvious question.

"Swing Low, Sweet Chariot."  For most of us our last ride remains to be a Cadillac. An ultimate insult would be to ride in a Mini-Van, Chrysler or otherwise!

  1. Because Cadillacs in 1957 were both old-fashioned and homely as mud fences.

    And thanks for asking.
