Through its decision to produce the next generation of the Macan in Leipzig, Porsche is laying the foundation for continued growth and the production of future models. Over the coming years, several hundred millions will be invested in the site, located in north-west Leipzig. Among the plans is the construction of a new body shop.
“The expertise and capabilities of our colleagues in the Leipzig plant were pivotal to this decision”, explains Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “This move is further proof that the plant is fit for the future.”

Porsche has invested more than 1.3 billion euro in the site

The Macan model is closely linked to Porsche Leipzig’s success story. The first major expansion of the plant – upgrading the site to a full-sized facility – took place in 2011 to accommodate the compact SUV. Two years ago, ground was broken on the fourth and (at the time) final stage of the expansion, allowing the Panamera series to be fully manufactured in Leipzig. Since the foundation stone was laid in February 2002, Porsche has invested more than 1.3 billion euro in the site in Saxony.

With the start of production of the Macan at the end of 2013, Porsche expanded the erstwhile assembly plant by adding a separate body shop and paint shop for the compact SUV. "It took only two years from the ground-breaking ceremony to the start of production – it was a project with a highly ambitious time schedule and the team mastered it with flying colours," said Dr. Oliver Blume, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics. The project involved drastically increasing the production area and the number of employees, setting up new processes and upgrading hundreds of production machines.
Now, the 100,000th Macan rolled off the production line. The milestone vehicle, a sapphire blue Macan Turbo, will be delivered to the USA.
